Merrillville

Post by nwifbfan »

As we are about to enter the tournament, I am curious as to Merrillville’s player health? Any players out that are returning? Are they any ineligible players eligible for tourne ie transfers?

I'll patiently wait for the reply from our resident Merrillville fan. I have the Pirates bowing out at Semi-State, again... Anyone see it differently?

I have Merrillville beating Lafayette Jeff in semi state and making it to finals. They match up very well vs Jeff. Jeff is a very good football team and I watched them early vs Chatard. Their defense is suspect and you can’t be vs Merrillville offense.

If I’m not mistaken..

We have 3 players that will return around regionals.

A starting LB that I believe is 2nd on team in tackles. He did something to his arm or shoulder in the city game and left in an ambulance.. and again if I’m not mistaken we have a DB returning that’s been out since week 5. (Not sure reason though) but don’t quote me on the 2nd one. The first I know is back right around regionals. Think he will be cleared middle of sectional title week. As long as we get past Morton. And the 3rd is a OL unless he returned last week. I wasn’t at the game last week due to a work schedule conflict 😂

And as for the pirates…

Cake walk after 1st qtr against Morton 30+
Cake walk sectional title by 40+
Regionals:Merrillville wins valpo by 17, city by 14, Chesterton by 20, Laporte by 40
Semistate: concord we win.. Jeff we win. Warsaw we lose.

And state… well… I’ll say this once. I think we lose to new pal. But I think we can compete with cathedral and bloom south

I’m pulling for the Pirates to make it to LOS and win it all. It’s all about matchups. I think your concern about Warsaw is a valid one. They are the type of team Merrillville does not match up well. Pound the ball, control the clock, physical style. I know nothing about Concird but Merrillville matches up great vs LJ.

I think pirates lose on anyone willing to run speed option we don’t cover it well

In my 17 years of watching duneland football.. I will say I think this is there most balanced team. They should be able to make the run. And that DB that debuted against us last Friday that was out all season (so im told) he is a lockdown DB. He broke up 8 passes in the game and should have had 2 INTs: also a great tackler. Good luck to pirates! But I need my Trojans to take them out

Hi everyone,

I just joined the forum.

I also think this Merrillville team seems more balanced than in previous seasons. Their offense is explosive, but it's the defense that's really impressed me in recent games, especially since the return of some starters. We feel like the team is stronger, even if the option coverage still has room for improvement, as DACfanatique mentioned.

It will all depend on discipline and tempo control against teams like Warsaw or New Pal. If the Pirates manage to keep their heads and impose their rhythm, they can go very far this year.

Good luck to them for the rest of the tournament!
