One can only marvel at how catastrophically Lowell football must have deteriorated for McKim to emerge as Coach of the Year. Was the programme genuinely on life support, or have we simply reached the stage where basic competence is mistaken for genius? Being thrashed by 20 points in a sectional final by a side you’d already dispatched earlier in the year is now apparently rebranded as “progress” under RDP — a fascinating redefinition of the word. And as for Kilmer, one can only assume he was enjoying a rather extended kip while the standards quietly slipped out the back door. All very inspiring stuff, if one’s bar is set somewhere near the cellar.
Lowell will take a big step back next year. Graduated a lot with poor performances from younger teams.
Lowell benefitted this year from a decent senior class and a weaker year from most all other teams. Overall there was a big gap between the top area teams (Andrean. CP, merrillville) and everyone else. Lowell just happened to be the prettiest girl from the ugly group this year

Lowell goes back to their reality in 2026 which is a .500 program. The three losses they had were non-competitive. They were fortunate to have a talented senior class that played hard and beat up on bad teams.
Hobart is the premier 4A program in NWI and I don’t see that changing in 2026. Illiana will eventually be 4A and my bold prediction for the next decade is that Illiana over takes Andrean as the premier private school athletically in NWI.
The Illiana angle bears a ton of possibility. Good facilities, centrally located for Illinois and Indiana. Growing enrollment, Administration backs athletic programs.
The MDS (Mckim derangement syndrome ) is so strong on this board. All he does is win wherever he goes.
Interesting first post here.
I might slow down if I were you. Wherever he goes? Lets not pretend like this dude is a coaching lifer who has been doing this for a couple decades.
He has coached at 2 places and only a total of 6 seasons so far. Now he has had a really nice run. But lets see how he is able to do moving forward at Lowell. He did seem to pick a good time to leave NP, so he has that going for him also.
