Re: Who’s Going to Portage?
Wheeler High School, with an enrollment south of 400 pupils and no open enrollment to speak of, is hardly the most advantageous of set-ups, is it? Rather puts them behind the eight ball from the off. And given those constraints, they’re effectively bolted to the GSSC — leaving simply isn’t on the cards, no matter how much one might fancy a change.

Vs no one!Jimbo23 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 4:13 pmLet's be honest about Portage, they have a 35% winning percentage since 2003 (Buzea's last Sectional Title there and the programs). They have won 0 Postseason championships nor looked capable of doing so. They have gone through 7 head coaches since Buzz left compared to 5 at Wheeler in the same time period. Sure, Wheeler needs to "upgrade their schedule" but if you think being in the DAC and 6A is simply what "makes Portage a better job" then man, you could be the 8th coach and then the 9th will be right behind ya... It is probably attractive for a new and/or young head coach that has upward ambitions. If Testa is ambitious, I can see him definitely leaving for a 6A program in a high profile conference.
By the way, since 2003, Wheeler has a 65% winning percentage and has won 2 Sectional Championships and lost a few close ones too. I don't care if I'm a new, young, old, or veteran head coach Wheeler High School is a better football coaching job than Portage High School in 2025 America.
Re: Who’s Going to Portage?
Since 2000(25 seasons), they are 19-26 in playoffs or 42%. A better way to look at it is they are averaging less than one win per season in playoffs at .76
Great just keep stacking up the wins in that conference with that schedule.

Exactly which conference would you recommend Wheeler should go to, genius?

Wheeler is in a tough spot. Their top incoming (and sometimes current) talent leaves for greener pastures. Numbers are low so they have to start a lot of undersized frosh, and it’s also difficult to develop the younger guys during the season because so many GSSC JV games get canceled because all the schools have low numbers.
That being said, Portage is a revolving door…

All true. In addition, Wheeler's teacher union keeps coach's pay low. On the upside, Wheeler has gorgeous facilities now and an athletic booster club that raises a lot of money for all sports - although the intangible support of the QB Club (dads) and FB Moms that the FB team enjoyed in the past has been lost when those groups disbanded.BombKicker wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 10:43 pmWheeler is in a tough spot. Truth hurts. Join the NCC. It would be much better for them. NCC just let Illiana Christian in over Wheeler. Why?Bearcat Nation wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 10:42 pmSame old tired crap.nwifbfan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 3:55 pmLet’s be honest about Wheeler. They are what you call a “paper tiger”. Personally, I would prefer to see Wheeler in NCC over Highland.

Re: Who’s Going to Portage?
No way the NCC would ever take Wheeler. Aside from soccer, Wheeler would get annihilated in every sport. Also, zero chance the Wheeler parents would accept that change. They love their participation trophies far too much.
