Wheeler is fine where they are. A move to the NCC would cripple what positives they have. I think Griffith is going to be a nice rivalry game for the top of the conference. The only thing portage has going for them is enrollment is dropping, and could put them in 5A soon. But as far as next year, looks like they have an all conference LB returning and that’s it. I saw their freshman team did pretty well. Maybe hope for a bright future in a few years?

Let’s be honest about Wheeler. They are what you call a “paper tiger”. They need to get out of that conference and upgrade their schedule. It is probably attractive for a new and/or young head coach that has upward ambitions. If Testa is ambitious, I can see him definitely leaving for a 6A program in a high profile conference.

Yeah, that would be brilliant. According to the latest IHSAA numbers, 2A Wheeler has 414 students, and you want them to play a schedule full of 5A Munster (1,514 students), 4A Hobart (1,298), 4A Lowell (985), 4A KV (989), 4A Highland (979), 4A Hanover (817), and private school 2A = public school 3A Andrean (455). Most of those schools have more Jr/Sr players than Wheeler has Fr/So/Jr/Sr players on the whole team. Yeah, that schedule would be much better for them.

And you want Wheeler's middle school program to face that schedule too.

Not that my opinion matters. But wheeler I think should move conferences. No matter if they get smacked every game or not. The competition will make there team better come tourney time over the years. Look at Andrean playing up they used to get smoked. And I get thy are private. But wheeler can build will just take time and the right coach to keep kids from leaving

Think it wasn’t until middle of January that they hired Richards a few years back. I assume that’s when they will announce the new coach as well.
