Good debate on which Andrean team better 04 or 13 team. Tough call, but I have to go with the 2013 team. 15-0. No one even close to them but two games. Merrillville and Brebeuf. Destroyed everyone else. 2004 had 2 losses and had more close games during season.

Finn or Desomer - another tough call. Desomer was better overall better athlete (bigger, stronger , faster)but Finn was Mr. Clutch and better passer. Too tough to call both were great!

I think most people want to give the ‘04 team the edge solely because of Finn, and I understand that. He’s a legend and one of the best players the Region has ever produced. But DeSomer was electric in his own right. And most importantly, I’d argue the rest of the team around DeSomer was much better than the team around Finn. There were dogs all over the place on that ‘13 team.
I dont think anyone is downplaying how good the 13 team was.

But IMO 04 was the better team. They were both great

Over the past twenty years which years version of each program was the best?

05/06 Crown Point
09/10 Lowell
20/21 Hobart
13/14 Andrean
This years Crown Point Team is way better than 05/06. It’s not even close.

Crown Point is 2005-2006, RIGHT NOW, on 10/19/2023 at 7:30 A.M. It's up to the 2023-24 CP team on if that holds true or not.

Lowell is, in my opinion, 2009-2010 (state runner up team). I see the argument for the 2008-09 team that lost to Tyler Eifert and the Saints but that 2009-10 group was TOUGH and beat a very good Dwenger team in the Semi-State.

Andrean's Finn's Team vs Desomer's Team argument is a great one for 59er fans to sit around and chat about. But as someone mentioned on here, that 2013-14 team was full of dudes around Desomer who were good as well (on both sides of the ball).

The Hobart state runner up team is the easy choice for me, I think. The team the year before I did think was better and did go through a tough path before losing that game against East Noble that they had control of early. But it's tough to say the team that made it is worse than the team that didn't, despite their path there.

Adding one for good measure (and because I went there lol), Morton 2010-2011 (Regional Champion Squad, lost to Dwenger in the Semi-State). Best of all the great Morton teams from 2000 - Present Day (Morton folks and people who know football know which teams were the great ones lol). Team was loaded with talent on both sides of the ball.

Bonus Team: Merrillville Pirates, 2012-2013 (42-39 Semi-State loss to Snider). I like this team more than other Merrillville teams for a few reasons, 1. This team had the best QB in Merrillville from 2005-today. 2. That was the most explosive offense in Merrillville that I can remember and I believe the numbers will back that up. They scored 50+ 4 times and were over 30 in every game but 30, most of those over 40... and 3. When the dome was on the line (in the largest class at the time), this team showed up and showed out. Other Merrillville teams, historically, have not. I know the defense was sketchy with this crew but they improved in the playoffs with the exception of the Snider game.

You make some great points. I agree with your Merrillville assessment too.
I would be interested to hear from some Valpo and Michigan City fans on their teams.

Michigan City never made it to the dome, but had some semi-state runs.

That 09 Lowell team was special.

Beat multiple top ten teams on the way to Lucas Oil. Semi State vs. Dwenger was electric and the best game I have seen in person

I'm no Michigan City super fan or anything, but I do think their team that lost to Kokomo in the semi-state was the best one in Phil's time there, 2017-18 school year. I was at that Kokomo game and there's no way Michigan City should've lost that game.

Valpo's team that got there and lost may have been a better Valpo team, but that squad last year GRINDED and won the first big school state title in many years. Tough to discredit that. This is an extremely fun topic to discuss though.

Electric game/ atmosphere. Such a special team! I think I do Lowell football a disservice by not discussing their state champions from 2005-2006 in this discussion. However, I think as far as the Jimmy's and the Joe's and overall team success, it's hard to not pick 2009-2010, for me (not a Lowell guy lol).

I’ll go with 2019 Valpo over 2022 Valpo. That 2019 team was a beast. Gave New Pal and Charlie Spegal all they could handle down at LOS. Up until last year, Valpo seemed to have gotten the bad luck of repeatedly running into generational players in state (Spegal, James Banks, Jeff George).
