How is it possible that Lake Central got physically dominated and shut out by 2A Andrean for 4 quarters? LC is the 6th largest school in the state by enrollment.

after all these years do we really need to ask that question?

LC has been weak and entitled for years.

Entitled might be strong, I just don't think football is a priority in the tri-town. Lake Central was too predictable on offense, and put their defense in tough spots with short fields. Also, don't diminish Andrean's accomplishment here, they have some play makers, which, ultimately was the difference. Lake Central lacks any true play makers on offense for a 6A school. There wasn't one player that Andrean had to key on, so they just had to play disciplined and be the better team athletically.

It is very simple and it comes down to coaching. They need to get a better coach, which is no easy task. They have great players and athletes and there is no doubt that if they get a quality coach they will be top 10 in the state.

But very sad the largest school in the area gets dominated in every way by a 2A school

I'd agree with this answer. Simply put, the root of the problem is that football isn't a priority like baseball and soccer (and dance, actually) to most of the families in the area. You can argue that it's the high school coach's responsibility to change that culture, and I'd argue that he is actually starting to do that. You don't turn around ship headed in the wrong direction, especially in 6A, overnight. If you want to compete at a high level in 6A you have to have the whole community buying in similar to the kids in high school, meaning from the junior ranks all the way up. It appears that TB is doing that and has started to build interest at the middle school levels and in the high school. I believe I counted 91 players on this year's team, at least for Week 1. That in and of itself seems to be an improvement vs a few years ago. Also, some of those Andrean players who are real difference makers actually would be on LC had they not gone to private school. Their stud sophomore LB #34 who has received D1 offers is among them. Not blaming any parent for any decision, I'm just saying the D1 talent in this particular case is not staying at LC but instead elected to go to Andrean... for the sake of one example.

Against Andrean - it was fairly clear after a couple drives that Andrean had real athletes, and LC had just some big kids but really not much speed or talent. It really just comes down to that. Andrean has some D1 talent and borderline D1 talent, LC I don't think has any of that. It's a jimmys and joes conversation again here but yes you'd like to think a 6A school like this should never have issue attracting talent to the field, but they do for some of the reasons already mentioned. That said, I believe basically all of their skill position starters on offense are juniors or sophomores. I know that to be the case for the QB, main RB, and top 4 WRs. None are seniors, so you'd like to think the offense next year will look a lot more in synch and advanced. Not sure of the O-line though.

Let's also not fool ourselves into still believing the "but how did a 2A school beat a 6A school" nonsense. Andrean doesn't just get the kids districted to them, like we all know. They can hang from a talent perspective with just about any team in the area regardless of class.

It was a fun game to watch and great environment all things considered, Andrean simply has much better players.

Not to put down high school players, that are out there doing their best, but please share who the great players you see on the field are. There's not a single D1 player on that team, there's not even a fringe D1 player IMO. I'm not trying to put the kids down in any way here, but it was clear Andrean had at least 3 offensive players that were superior to anyone on LC's roster, athletically speaking. Putting it all on coaching isn't fair here. LC has some size, but there are no play makers on offense and they're very predictable because of their lack of options.

Putting the blame on the coaching is a cop out.

As AD asked who is the great players on their roster? If there are great players on that roster then Fred Flinstone could coach them to a win against a class 2 school or for it to at least be a competitive game.

Entitled probably was a bad word choice. But this is no surprise for anyone who has been paying attention to region football for the last 10 years.

I hope the ship gets turned around, but I do not have a lot of confidence it will as it seems football is far down the list of things people in that community are interested in.

You're far too smart (knowing you've been a diehard and reading these boards for years) to REALLY think that just because Andrean is a 2A school means any 6A school should be them regardless of any other context. If they were a 2A public school, then maybe, but they are a different animal and we all know it. This is a tired argument that's been rehashed on this board for ages.

Also, you ask whether there are any great players on the roster. The answer is a resounding No.

Also you're agreeing with what I've said that football is down on the list of what people in the community are interested in. Now you get it.

It is the varsity coaches job to built and run the program. So it is his job to get the 7th and 8th graders to buy in and choose football over other sports. LC has great athletes, they are very good in every other sport. A talented head coach gets more of those kids to play football. It is a simple fix but finding the right head coach is very difficult.

Merrillville/Morton (6A) dominated Andrean and Valpo (5A) dominated them in a scrimmage so yes bigger public schools should beat very small 2A private schools

If building a football program is so easy, then why has the region won so few state titles in football. I'll raise you one, by your handle, I can only assume you are from Hobart, using your logic, with a winning football tradition in football, you'd think Hobart had athletes walking the halls, why have all their baseball and basketball teams been so bad? I'll help you with that, A + B doesn't always equal C. LC parents value baseball, so as a result of 500 kids a summer in 6-8th grades playing travel baseball, by the time they get to high school, it's pretty easy to put a quality team together. That's not to say the Varsity baseball coach isn't doing a great job, but he's got a lot of ponies to make his job easier. Football isn't a priority in the tri-town, so you get an average team at best annually in St. John.
