River Forest/Lake Station

River Forest has an opportunity tonight to take the all-time lead in this rivalry for the first time ever since the series started in 1958. Based on scores available on NorthwestIndianaFootball.com and John Harrell's football site, it appears that the all-time series is tied 32-32-1. Lake Station (then called East Gary) dominated in the early years of the series, but the Ingots gained ground during the coaching tenure of Dennis Leonard in the 1970s and 1980s, as Leonard compiled an 11-1 record against the Eagles. River Forest has dominated in recent years and can take the series lead with a victory tonight.
Interestingly, on the only previous occasion in which the series was tied (1989), River Forest lost. I was there for that game. Huge upset. RF dominated but blew several scoring opportunities and lost 7-6 due to their only extra point attempt being snapped over the kicker's head.
