What's up with the schedule for Morton? I don't mind the out of state schools in week 3 and 4 to Byron Center in Michigan and Shepard in Illinois they're both fairly good but how is Morton playing Phalen Academy in week 5 and Calumet Christian in week 6? For years Morton played Munster in week 5 but Munster would rather play EC Central? Same goes for Griffith the second closest school to Morton for week 6? I mean even Bowman Academy is able to play 8 of their 9 games against IHSAA members.

Imma take 2 guesses…
1. No one wants to play then because they really don’t bring a crowd anywhere. So no money is made…
2. Most schools don’t want to play them because of certain people on or around the coaching staff?
Just a guess. Nothing official just a guess

Whelp, since Sean Kinsey has been their AD, they have played the likes of: Cathedral, Elkhart, and Penn during these mentioned weeks. They added Byron Center last year who finished as a State runner up in Michigan as well. So I think this covers the "strength of schedule" portion of these posts. Not to mention that almost EVERY conference, locally and otherwise, are in conference play during weeks 3-6. You combine that with West Side leaving their conference for the GSSC and this is what's left. AND!!! Calumet backed out of their contract with Morton for Week 5 this year (sometime in April or May I believe) which left Morton scrambling for a week 5 opponent.
So no, Cody, it's not due to their "lack of a crowd"/ gate money. NOR is it the fact that a lot of SOFT coaches in this area don't like members of the Morton coaching staff or those around them. And IF that is a reason for Region schools "staying away" then I suggest those coaches look themselves in the mirror and ask themselves WHY. Especially considering this coaching staff that they "look down on" had the stones to play Cathedral, Elkhart, and Penn in the last 5-6 years, meanwhile there's a few "heavy hitters" around here that AVOIDED those opponents. Good luck to everyone tonight.

Merrillville and crown poing have called Indy the last 2 years and none of them want to do home and homes which is why Merrillville went Loyola and crown point went pike according to both schools
