POWER RANKINGS AND PREDICTIONS

Week 5 power rankings.

1. Crown point (4-0)
2. Merrillville (2-2)
3. Michigan city (3-1)
4. Valpo (1-3)
5. Chesterton (2-2)
6. Lake central (2-2
7. Laporte (1-3)
8. Portage (0-4)

Week 5 predictions:

Crown point @ portage:

Crown point comes in after a shutout over lake central. Crown point had there way on offense as they have most of the year. It’s very boring and basic but it gets the job done. Defensively crown point is solid but vulnerable through air.. portage on the other hand comes in off a loss to Merrillville where the game was never close, 30-3 at halftime Merrillville came out and did different things on defense. Portage has a good running back and a solid QB. And was able to find some offensive rhythm in the 2nd half. But this game will be way too much for portage to compete.

Bulldogs with a running clock 49-0

Lake central @ Laporte:

Lake central comes in off a shutout loss to crown point where they couldn’t seem to get anything going. The dogs had the blue Indians beaten before the first snap was taken. LC has got to find a way to get a more balanced attack in there offense and need to get stops on defense. Laporte comes in off a loss to Chesterton by a score of 34-14. Laporte was able to hang around for a half, but the Chesterton run game finally got going to open up the pass for what could be a quality QB for Chesterton. This game will come down to the trenches. I’ll take the blue Indians

Lake central 28-10

*CO GAMES OF WEEK*

Valpo @ Chesterton:

Valpo comes into this game off a loss to the wolves of Michigan city 27-21. Valpo offensively struggles to move the ball in 1st half but the defense has definitely improved. The 2nd half was a different story as they found a lot of space to operate just didn’t finish some drives. They had a chance at end of game to tie/win it and a bad snap took that away from them. Valpo is slowly improving this team will be an oddest team come state tourney time. Chesterton comes in off a 2nd half domination over the Laporte slicers. Chesterton relies heavy on there run game to open everything else up. And when it’s bottled up Chesterton doesn’t have any answers offensively. Look for both teams to rely heavy on defense to begin this game.

I’ll take Valpo because if the coaching staff and pedigree of the team

28-17 Vikings

Merrillville @ Michigan city:

Merrillville(big brother) travels to Ames field off a no doubt win over portage. Score was 30-3 at the half. Merrillville offensively is still trying to find a few answers but it’s been solid every week but definitely can improve a lot more. Defensively for the pirates it doesn’t seem like they put 4 strong qtrs together. This is definitely a 2nd half team. The defense needs to show up for 4qtrs this week.

Michigan city (little brother😂) on the other hand is very similar to the pirates. They enter off a win over Valpo. they have a very solid defense but there offense only plays half a game it seems like as they don’t always show up. City will have to rely on the run game as the passing game has been very hard to come by for anyone against this Merrillville team for 4qtrs. This game comes down to who wants it more. Will both teams show everything? Could this be a potential regional championship preview? I mean we all know who owns this rivalry right?

Pirates 35-17 💯

I would have to agree with your rankings 1-8. We'll see if there is a shakeup after the 2/3 matchup and the 4/5 matchup.

2/3 is possible depending on what Merrillville decides to show. Hearing the plan is to keep it vanilla because they believe this is a rematch later in year.

The other I just think valpo runs away with it early
