conference question

Post by BallinFreak »

This is a basketball question, but no one seems to pay attention to anything in that forum, so I am going to ask it here.

Saw a post on one of the news outlets saying there was a big boys basketball conference battle between Laporte and Griffith....

have I missed something, are conferences different now in basketball than they are in football? Or is this post wrong?

Speaking of Conferences though, here is Jimbo's Dream for NWI... BRING BACK THE LAC, Black and Blue! Utilize a promotion relegation system across all sports to keep things competitive. Top 2 teams in Blue move up to Black and Bottom 2 in Black move down to Blue. Can apply relegation every 1 or 2 years. If you can get Boone Grove to leave the PCC (likely impossible) then you would have a perfect 10 and 10 at all times.

Football Conferences for 2026...

LAC Black
Andrean, Griffith, Hanover, Highland, Hobart, KV, Lowell, Morton, Munster, Wheeler

LAC Blue
Bishop Noll, Boone Grove, Calumet, Hammond Central, EC, Illiana Christian, Lake Station, River Forest, West Side, Whiting

Boys Basketball Conferences for 2026...
LAC Black
Andrean, Bishop Noll, EC, Griffith, Hanover, Hobart, Lowell, Morton, Munster, West Side

LAC Blue
Calumet, Hammond Central, Highland, Illiana Christian, Lake Station, KV, River Forest, Wheeler, Whiting

Wrestling Conferences for 2026...
LAC Black
Andrean, Calumet, Griffith, Hanover, Highland, Hobart, KV, Lowell, Morton, Munster

LAC Blue
Bishop Noll, Hammond Central, EC, Illiana Christian, Lake Station, River Forest, West Side, Wheeler, Whiting

Jimbo, I like your suggestion but I would make one change in Football. I’d move Highland to the Blue division and bring Hammond Central into the Black.

The only negative I see is no non conference schedule. I think it’s extremely beneficial to play teams outside the Region.

I don't think, nor did I say, that you should HAVE TO play everyone in the conference/ eliminate non-conference games because I agree with you, there's value in non-conference games outside of the Region. The biggest issue/ negative is going to be AD's not wanting to deal with changing schedules every 2 years to accommodate for all the moving parts in the schedules.

I disagree on Hammond Central being moved up to the Black. Hammond Central appears on a more downward trend than Highland. Both jobs are undesirable but one is more undesirable than the other. Sure, one's enrollment is bigger but it won't really matter and I think the first wave of relegation/ promotion would see Highland and KV dropping down to the Blue while Calumet and West Side, River Forest, or EC being more likely to jump up to the Black (given current states of affairs) before Hammond Central.

No thanks. Don't like the regulation/promotion and there's too many teams in each division.

Once the final out is made and or the final Golf Ball has been struck, in this school year, the Bombers will be independent.

Let's get Boone, Wheeler, RCHS, KV together. And go from there.

FWIW: I am very excited for football independence starting next year.

I'd be all for that, a good start.
