DAC week 2 power rankings and predictions

DAC WEEK 2 predictions

Week 2 power rankings (based only on week 1)

1. Crown point (1-0)
2. Merrillvillle (1-0)
3. Michigan city (1-0)
4. Lake central (1-0)
5. Laporte (1-0)
6. Valpo (0-1)
7. Chesterton (0-1)
8. portage (0-1)

Week 2 predictions

Crown point @ pike: Pike enters this matchup off a loss to Zionsville. Pike has a mobile QB and the ability to move the ball but just didn’t work out week 1. The run defense for pike was non existent in week 1. They need to become a lot more balanced this week to have a chance at a win. Crown point enters this matchup after a solid win over Lowell. Crown points offense was able to push Lowell around after the first few drives. Crown point did not cover the “spread” but was able to find some nice things during the game. Crown point defense was solid also against a undermanned Lowell team. My personal opinion this game needs to be scrapped, crown point also doesn’t look as dominant around the ball as last 3 years as there looks to be a few steps back. We will see as season goes on. Crown point should win this game 28-13

Grand Rapids catholic @ LC: lake central comes in to this matchup off a win over Munster. Lake central was able to move the ball all game impressively. Defense needs to be worked on after giving up over 20 points though. Grand rapids catholic will be opening there season with lake central and the last season they were able to win this matchup. I’m gonna go with Grand Rapids to take the win 35-24

Morton @ Chesterton: Morton enters this game off a dominant game over portage. Morton’s defense was aggressive and fast and shit down the portage offense. Morton’s offense has some things that need to be figured out as this game could have been a lot worst but they do have a very impressive freshman starting at QB. Chesterton usually has a dominant running game but it was stifled week 1 against Hobart. Chesterton has a lot of positives to build on and we will see an improvement over this season. This game I’m gonna go with a shocker. Chesterton will defeat Morton running the ball 24-14

Hobart @ portage: Hobart comes into this matchup off a dominating win over Hobart. QB was extremely impressive and the way Hobart defense was able to bottle up the run was outstanding. Portage on the other hand lost there head coach and many game breaking players after Roy Richard’s was let for from the program. I’m gonna keep this nice and easy. Coach K has a lot of work ahead of him and I can see portage not winning a game all season if this doesn’t improve fast. Hobart wins this game big 42-10

Laporte @ Lowell: Laporte enters this game off a big win over the new prairie cougars to bring the jug home. Laporte was able to dominate both sides of the ball which is a rare feat for this program now a days. Maybe the tide is starting to turn for the slicers. Lowell on the other hand got dominated by crown point and wasn’t able to get much of anything going. But they put up a good fight for the first half against a team they has dominated them lately. Lowell is a lot better than week 1 showed and I’m gonna go with them to win the game.

Lowell 28-21

Michigan city @ Lafayette Jeff:

Michigan city comes into this game off a dominant win over Hanover central. City controlled the game with outstanding defense giving there offense some good field position through the night. The offense for city has some things to work on as it was hit and miss as most are week 1. Lafayette Jefferson comes into this matchup off a loss to Indianapolis chatard. Jeff was able to go toe to toe with one of the best schools the state has year in and year out. The speed of the WRs for Jeff and the good defense will help them thought out the season. This matchup comes down to the little things and unfortunately city doesn’t do the little things right on offense. I’ll take the Jeff broncos to wear down the city defense and pull away in 2nd half. 42-14

Valpo @ brother rice (IL):

#10 brother rice will be opening there season with the Vikings but are coming into this season off a 6-4 record and a 1st round loss in Illinois playoffs and will be looking to build on last season. Valpo comes in a 0-1 after a loss to Penn 21-13. After watching the game this valpo team has alot of work to do to get back to the call of last few years. The LBs are solid but the rest of defense needs a lot of work. Offensively there wasn’t a lot of great in game 1. There was some okay and some good. QB Kellen will grow as season goes on as will the valpo offense. This game will be interesting to see valpo going in blind against a good brother rice team and can valpo improve from week 1.. I’m gonna take brother rice to open there season with a win at home
28-10.

Game of week:

Loyola academy (IL) @ merrillville:

Loyola will be opening there season at demaree stadium in Merrillville. Loyola comes into this matchup after a 8A state championship. And winning 3 of the last 4 and being there 7 of the last 10 years. They were hit heavy by graduation graduated 97% of there production but this is a program that just reloads every year. Merrillville comes in off a dominant victory over the Andrean 59ers. After the first qtr Merrillville had there way with the 9ers. Merrillville has one of the top RB duos in the state of Indiana. And a junior QB that has burst onto the scene. Are the pirates ready to take on this challenge or is this game over Before it starts. In my mind this is a major step up in competition this team will beat most of the state of Indiana. I’m gonna go with Loyola to pull out the win but it won’t be a blowout. Pirates prove they are a 5A contender this year with a 42-35 loss after Loyola scores late in 4th qtr to win the game.

I’d love to see Merrillville keep it within 2 scores that would be a win.

Most have us losing by 30

To be honest, the 14 was based on hope more so than reality.

The DAC this year is really broken down this way:

2 teams that are very good and are the top two teams in area. (CP and Merrillville)

4 teams that are mediocre and will have good games against each other but are a significant drop from the top two teams above (Valpo, MC, LC and Laporte)

2 teams that are not good. (Chesterton and Portage)

I do not think we have seen even close to enough to name LC and Laporte as mediocre and Portage and Chesterton as below them.

Chesterton is top 4 I believe

Personally I think if the o-line for Merrillville is better I think Merrillville can beat them. But we will see. Never count them out

These are 100% spot on statements. I do believe that Hobart is a legit threat to rep the North in 4A. I really like them. So, I wouldn't be very quick to annoint Chesterton as a cellar dwellar. But, Portage looked completely awful against Morton. I would be surprised if they get more than 1 DAC win, which pains me to say as a mid '90's Portage alum. It's possible New Prairie is taking a major step back with losign their coach to Lowell. I think this Friday will tell us a little more about LaPorte.
